Replaced the new engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor with the old one. Knock on wood, seems to have solved the issue. Hard to believe a new one would be non-functional so soon.Ejbdunes wrote: ↑26 Mar 2023, 11:04 well, not what I did but going to do (hopefully)
After returning home from a short drive yesterday, one of our other family drivers said the "Engine Service Required" amber light popped up. All fluids (oil, coolant, brake) checked and good. When I started it last night, the A/C was on.
*a little background: the coolant fan was constantly on last week. No codes with Torque plus OBD-2 (do not have access to VIDA--yet) Recharged the A/C and fan operation returned to normal. Another potential factor: Thursday there was a traffic incident which delayed the commute home (almost two hours to drive 5 miles) so a lot of stops and starts and 5MPH when moving. I kept the car in neutral when not moving then turned on the A/C to keep the fan cooling.
Friday's commute was normal, no warning lights, cruise control functioned normally, MPG was normal for the entire day.
Further info:
thermostat housing replaced last month
MAF replaced April 2021
Battery replaced October 2020
PCV is due for cleaning/service
Not sure but I think I'll try scanning this morning and see what pops up. Any other ideas? thanks
What did you do to your P2 Volvo today?

I would strongly discourage the use of aftermarket parts in these cars, particularly but not limited to electronic components. For some reason, the generic nature of these parts is incompatible with P2 and perhaps other Volvo's. Troubleshooting becomes uncertain when throwing Brand X parts that often don't work right out of the box. Time saving lessons from those who have been there.

lesson learned! I should have known after electronic adventures with previous Volvos.Blacklab467 wrote: ↑05 Apr 2023, 06:43 I would strongly discourage the use of aftermarket parts in these cars, particularly but not limited to electronic components. Next adventure is the coil wiring harness. NOT looking forward to that!

I've got a new handmade harness w/ VVT from guy in Russia, it cost me under $100 shipped about 3-4 years ago. These days it's not an option, but Dave makes harnesses as well: https://www.prancingmoose.com/volvoharn ... oilharness
Regarding non-Volvo sensors: look up who made the engine computer in your car and buy only sensors made by the same company. I.e. Denso -> Denso, Bosch -> Bosch. Pay attention to part numbers.

Is installing the new coil harness a difficult job? i.e., can it be done DIY? It looks like butt connectors and reconnect. Can it be that straightforward?vtl wrote: ↑06 Apr 2023, 05:20I've got a new handmade harness w/ VVT from guy in Russia, it cost me under $100 shipped about 3-4 years ago. Anyone done this at home?

When I replaced all 5 coils I threw on a used IGN harness I got from Erie Volvo last summer. Down here in the southeast I couldn't find any P2s in the salvage yards.

The 2.5T gets really hot so I not only soldered the wires but threw on these heat shrink butt connectors I got at Amazon.

I then heat shrunk on 2 layers of heat shrink tubing. Followed that with vinyl electrical tape, acrylic electrical tape, and new wire loom.
