C70 subframe brace

C70 subframe brace

So there is one in my local junkyard, but I'm wondering if it really brings anything to the party. Convertibles usually have beefed up undercarriages due to the fact that they don't have a roof to hold thing stiff. So does installing the brace really help on a sedan, or wagon ?

It will be a subjective test. You would have to drive your car and try to feel how it responds in corners. Then fit the brace and try again. I have read articles on some who have fitted it and they seem to believe it stiffens the front end and reduces body roll. I would suggest that if you improve the front end then you may have to consider the back too. Not a big recommender of IPD for most things these days, but their rear sway bar is actually worthwhile if you are doing this. There may be other brands out there too.

Another test would be more of a practical nature: park with a front wheel up on a curb and test all four doors for opening/closing and catching while they do. Then test again with the sub frame installed. P80s were too flexy as they came from the factory floor. Help in this area is a good thing.

My 854's front doors would catch hard with one wheel on a curb. My strut tower brace helped, but it was putting band aids on bullet holes, in the end.

No down side to the brace if it's a pic-n-pul item, sometimes it's hard to work underneath in those places though. I have one, 855, it's a minimal improvement but like everything else it depends on the condition of the rest of the suspension. My "new" Boge/Sachs shocks are soft, springs are old, etc. I'm going for a re-do.
