850 T-5R Black Wagon (Hydro-locked)

Post by Dmck »

Well,

I went through a huge puddle. Car shut down. Air filter was wet. Removing hose to throttle body showed water reached that point. Removing the spark plugs showed no water in the cylinders though. I was unable to crank the crank shaft with a breaker bar. I believe I have a bent rod or the crank shaft itself.

Is there any other tests or possible solutions to see if the pistons can possibly be freed and engine run again?

Sad about my favorite car.

I guess you could remove the spark-plugs and use a boroscope camera and see if any of the pistons is damaged. Another possibility is you have jumped teeth on the timing belt and bent valves. Hard to verify when the engine won't turn over.

Can a boroscope see the valves too?

Im going to remove the timing belt. This should allow me to test the crank shaft and negate the possibility of a bent valve. If the shaft moves with no timing belt it means bent valve I would think. (If a bent valve is impeding movement one direction, with timing belt off, it should allow movement other direction.)

If shaft still doesnt move it means rod, piston or shaft itself...

Tops of your pistons will soon let you know with a boroscope if you have bent valves as you will see the imprint. Some boroscopes have a side view option which would allow you to see if the valves are bent. You may have a local parts store that loans that equipment. These days I believe you can even get an app and camera to add to your cell phone to allow that viewing. I am fairly certain Alex on Youtubes - legitstreetcars shows using such a device from time-to-time.

If you are going to remove your timing belt and move anything like the crank pulley, make sure you clearly mark it and a point on the block so you know where to return it to assuming you can move it.
