still heavy fuel

hi there have cleaned maf sensor today and had a quicl look for vacum leak does anyone have any common areas to look to save me hours chasing round the engine bay pullin on an off hoses

Dan, the usual suspects are the vacuum hose elbows that bend around the sides of the intake manifold...the one under the thermostat housing is hard to see and difficult to get to. There are several ways to check for vacuum leaks, but what I've use (and it seems to work pretty well) is to spray a flamable liquid, such as brake cleaner, electrical contact cleaner or even carb cleaner with a fine mist in and around the suspected areas while the car is idling (some use propane gas). When the car surges, you know it's sucked in the stuff and there's your leak.

yea checked for vacum leaks this morning still coultnd find anything ah was thinking couold it be 02 sensor or a blocked catalatic converter an if it could be 02 sensor are the turbo an non turbo ones the same as i have a non turbo parts car

also found today on long trip that when i boot it i get mean boost and good power then after bout 10 seconds it drops back but iff i throttle off on back on quickly it comes backup again an keeps goin hard like when it kicks down it goes hard but when it changes up the boost drops back a bit an dnt go back up an if it dont quite kick down it doesnt have full boos either couls the boost controller be faulty or tps ?? or maybe still 02 not sure just dont wanna replace a whole lot of crap when there is no need to

Looks like your tcv (turbo control valve) could be faulty. These are prone to go after several years. If you want the smoothest boost and holding power out of it, IPD ( www.ipdusa.com ) sells a heavy duty version for less than $100 shipped.

would that be causin my excessive fuel use an my codes?? or am i likly to have a series of problems my car was sitting for a week an when i got back the light was off and still used the same gas but came on after bout 2 days driving again?? need help as i would really like to bring down my gas bill as i do 500-600 km a week an if i could nearly half my fuel cost then i would have some spare money again lol

ok think you are right i disconected the tcv an it goes way better as it was getting really slow and i was like this aint good and the differeance was astonashing so i did that an check codes and found there are all codes i have brought up from checkin things so have cleard will run it to work tomorrow and see what happens and service light came up yesterday so will service this week and i guess the next thing will be gettin rid of the light if you could fill me in a bit on the it would be greatly apreciated

Clearing the service reminder light depends on the model year. What year Volvo do you have? Also, since upgrading to an IPD tcv, I have my old one left (still good). I could let it go for cheap if you need one.

yea mine is a 1993 850t5 but im in new zealand
