Car cover recommendation?

Post by FireFox31 »

Can anyone recommend a quality car cover for a 1998 V70? I need to protect mine from bird poop during Spring, Summer, Fall in New England. The sun isn't too bad but UV protection would be nice. I'm really concerned about trapping water, pollen, and other contaminants which might abrade the paint from wind or bake on from trapped sun heat. The bird poop is ruining my paint but I can't have the cover making it worse.

I checked covers at Covercraft. They range from $300 - $800. I only need this cover for a few more months until I get the car to a better location. So much damage has already been done that the price is hard to justify, considering that I'll need clear coat correction to remove the stains already on there.

Or just cut down the tree I have to park under. Seems a bit harsh though.

I bought one that is now just sitting in the garage. I used it for a year until my garage got built on my 00 R. Seemed to work ok. It had a belly strap and straps to hold it onto the car even in our winter weather. Car appears to have survived ok.

I will try to recall the brand I bought. It was CarCovers.com I paid about $240 US all in as I added the windy weather strap package.

This is the one I have:

I park under a big maple. I just keep washing the car..... I have a monthly car wash subscription for both my Volvos. I guess automatic carwashes are considered horrible by some people too though. I don't have the patience or time for hand washing much.

Like Neil, I think bought mine from CarCovers.com. It was $140 back in 2019. Very well made. Water proof. fleece lined. I use it mostly to keep dust etc off the car when it's in my shop, due to all of the sawdust floating around in there.

It is against the municipal by-laws in Calgary to wash your car in the road or driveway to prevent stuff getting into the rivers. We have 2 options, self washing cars with the pressure wands and brushes they supply, or full car wash.

You guys competing with California and New York for the most restrictive/insane laws possible? =)

Yup! With carbon tax on everything, wind turbines killing more birds and bats than oil tailings point while producing little sustainable energy, we truly have it great here. Now if I could only see outside for all the forest fire smoke!!
