This is the passenger side CV axle. It looks like grease is coming out between the scalloped steel hub thing and a thick rubber piece that the boot connects to. I first thought the clamp was loose and it was coming out there but it's tight all around and doesn't seem to be leaking there. Is this repairable?

I suggest you clean as much off as you can and then watch where it comes back from. From your pictures it is hard to say if it is grease from the CV boot on the axle or power steering fluid (ATF) from the steering rack boot.

If it is possible, can you take and post a couple of pictures from further back on each of this pictures.

That's what I've been doing over the past couple weeks. The boot is new. The "stuff" feels like a cross between motor oil and bearing grease and the color is not what I'm use to seeing from an axle.. I just got this car in March. I immediately took the engine/trans out and replaced seals, etc (RMS was main one). The intake cam shaft seal was leaking badly - all over everything by the time I got it. Is it possible motor oil got into the junction there and it's slinging it out? I've put 300-400 miles on it since putting the engine back in so seems unlikely it would still be coming out. I'll clean it up tomorrow and drive it a little and then take more pictures.

Like you said, it looks like a oil or oil/coolant mix. Do you have axle stands? You could jack the front up and try running the engine in gear with the rear wheel chocked. This may help you to see where the oil is coming from. You could even remove the front wheel to get a better view.

Feeling dumb on this one. That rubber piece that I thought the boot connected to IS the boot. It's so thick I though it was a separate piece.. Anyway, working it with my fingers I felt like the boot clamp loosened up or the boot compressed a little, either way it wasn't tight. I removed the clamp and pulled the boot back and what I saw leaking out was indeed the grease from inside the boot. There appeared to be plenty left in there so I reinstalled the boot and used a narrow screw clamp to hold it. Will check again after I put some miles on it. The driver side has the same problem but not nearly to the same degree.

Hey, don't beat yourself up on this. We have all done this type of things ourselves over the years (in some cases many times.....!  )

Let us know if it is successful.
