Did you redo the hubs? They are not notched and can be put on camshaft in any position.

I would just remove any old timing marks by PO. Buy a new timing kit and start from scratch with instructions you find here in the forum. The tools you need are available for cheap on eBay. Mine is not the best quality but has been wotking fine for years.

Did not. The intake hub was not removed during the process. Just the exhaust. So it's possible the exhaust hub was put back on incorrectly. However both were very close before I attempted to move it. The exhaust was slightly more advanced (by about 1 1/2 teeth) than the intake. May just adjust and see if that works?

With DiCE+VIDA you can see precisely (fractions of degree) how bad is misalignment, actuate VVT solenoid, run VVT test and even see on the plot what is the actual VVT angle vs the one commanded by the engine computer.

I fixed it. So apparently the exhaust hub was seated about 1 1/2 teeth off from its timing mark.

What I was not doing however was rotating the cams CW 90 degrees and then ccw back 90 degrees to their marks. Apparently not doing this caused it to throw the code. All is well now. Thanks guys.

But this is not how the hub is seated.

The sprocket must be positioned in center (3 bolts are in center of oval holes), so it could be later moved left or right when doing the final alignment.

The hub is seated 90+ degrees CCW to the expected timing mark, the bolt is tightened slightly, the hub is then rotated CW until the mark is met. The bolt is fully tightened then. At this point the hub should not move CW past the mark, at least not very far. It will be off a few degrees, but the sprocket alignment can compensate that.

Last time I went down this rabbit hole I think I had the belt off and on 12 times before I got it right. Documented it inthe Elizabeth maintenance thread.

I know this is an old thread but I'm having similar issues on an 06 v70 2.5t and would like to read through that Elizabeth thread, can someone pinpoint it for me? Searches for that do not come up with what I'm thinking it would be. Thanks
