Let us know what the maker of that water pump was when replaced.

I have my own selfish reasons for wanting to know...

That will be a 100% will do!! Again no idea if it was replaced last belt in 2016 or not. Original owner can't recall. I doubt it was.

I am dreading trying to remove the pump bolts if it has been on there for over 10 years, or god forbid since new.................! Gulp!!

When I did my 96, the pump and bolts came out fine. I'm pretty sure they were original. It only about 90 thousand miles, Though, at the time (1.5 years ago?). My biggest worry was the gasket. I didn't want to be scraping gasket in a low visibility tight space. Even that wasn't so bad. Most of the gasket popped off, and I only had a small area I had to try to scrape, and then that piece mostly popped off.

Hit that gasket with brake cleaner for an hour, the it comes off. Gentle torque on those bolts, heat of the are stuck

My 250k, 20 year old ones came off easily

That is great news and advice guys. I have removed them before without issue other than the gasket removal in a tight space lying on my back. I am hoping this time with the hoist to make that a less painful experience!

Well finally got the car to my garage and today got the pump removed. As requested, I have taken a picture of the pump. I don't recognize the brand (does anyone??). I asked the owner if he knew how old it was but he has no clue as his uncle had the timing belt changed before he inherited the car.

Unknown brand of water pump?

Removing the pump may have identified the cause of the knock in the engine. I am fairly confident this is the issue, but won't know until I can get the new pump on and the engine started.

Needless to say the pump bearing is totally shot and it flops around. The owner was smart not to have driven the car and ask as this was a time bomb!!

I hope to have the water pump back on tomorrow if the Permatex thread sealer gets here early enough. I then plan to re-install the timing belt just to see if the knock has gone. then if all is good we can plan the rest of the cars' repairs and probably a new timing belt and tensioner pulley with the idler puller.

Google images was no help with that logo. Parts geek had something like 16 vendors of pumps for these cars, crazy, ranging from $30-90

Volvo for me, ,please.

I'm guessing the pump was done, but with whatever the local big box store had for cheap. I always replace the pump when doing timing belts. It just seems like too cheap a step not to do compared to the unlikely damage and cost to fix it if you didn't.

I always use Volvo or Aisin for the pumps. I believe the Volvo pump kit comes with the bolts with the sealant on them. I'm going to send a picture of your pic to a friend that works at O'Reilly's down south to see if she knows what brand that is.

Yeh, bearings are completely shot. Not sure if it was swapped at the last TB change or not as it was back in about 2106. Car has done about 40-50,000km since then.
