Correct, ring end-gap is filed to fit each cylinder bore and application. The gap spec is different for NA v. forced induction. Internal reciprocating mass balancing is quite the Black Art; I was hands-on at a machine shop that specialized in NASCAR engine prep. The job is pretty labo(u)r intensive, and expensive if charged at market price.
