XC70 2001 Evap J hose RR

Post by VOLVOTK427 »

ON A PREVIOUS POST, I SAW HOW A USER BUTCHERED HIS CAR IN ORDER TO GET TO THE J HOSE THAT OFTEN CRACKS AND CAUSES EVAP LEAKS/ CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO TURN ON.
HERE ARE THE STEPS THAT NEED TO BE TAKEN IN ORDER TO REPLACE THE HOSE WITHOUT CUTTING HOLES IN YOUR FLOOR PAN.

I STILL CAN'T BELIVE THAT HE ACTUALLY POSTED THOSE PICTURES... BUT HEY THERE IS A WRONG WAY, AND A RIGHT WAY TO DO ANYTHING...
HERE ARE THE PICTURES FOR REFERANCE IF YOU WANT TO ACTUALLY DO THE JOB RIGHT AND IN LESS THEN AN HOUR OR 2.
WITHOUT A DREMEL OR A TORCH!

YOU SIMPLY HAVE TO TAKE DOWN THE REAR SECTION OF THE EXUAST, REMOVE THE CHARCOAL CANISTER, REPLACE THE HOSE AND REINSTALL IT. LIKE A NORMAL HUMAN BEING...

HAVE A GREAT DAY!

VOLVO FOR LIFE
P.S.
NOT SURE WHY THE PICTURES SHOW SIDEWAYS, BUT YOU GET THE IDEA...

This post really ticks all the boxes.

All caps
Wrong orientation on pictures
No real “steps” just slamming another poster’s method

10/10 for the most stereotypical auto forum post I’ve ever seen in my life. Love it.

On second scroll through photos: canister really just magically slides out towards you? I find it hard to believe the rear access of that assembly is that easy.

Much of my time during the job is spent hauling things up and down the stairs to the basement or in and out of the storage shed, or running back downstairs when I realize I need something else,or taking a break from standing out in the sun,or using flashlights or work lamps when it gets dark.

Thanks for sharing the correct way to tackle this job. Like the guys say, it is great to see the underside of a car without all the rust from the winter de-icing products on the roads here.

I did the first step and and installed a hoist..........! :D

Now for the rest!

Thank you!
Does the pump fail, item #6; does VIDA show the status of this item? A vacuum test if it is out?

Thanks. So all XC70s have this system? I should take a look under there. Is this a common problem? Is it a high mileage thing?
