The dealer highlighted a leak from the RH front axle seal on my son's 06 XC70. I have replaced this on P80's but not on an AWD P2.
I can find videos on how to do the LH axle seal and axle but nothing on the RHF.
I know the RHF axle also has that large castellated nut ( I believe it is now NLA). Does that need to be removed or is there just one seal that has to be removed and replaced?
Neil.

scot I have a collar sleeve in my stock, having been in there before I can assure you that you'll probably have to sacrifice the one in it to get it out. I could probably help you with the propshaft and gear removal if you need also. I'd be curious to know if his AWD still works, you may want to address the bevel gear if the AWD is failed while you've got it out. The input splines wear out and spin on the collar sleeve, generally failing at about the 200K km range.

Blind bearing puller will do it safely under one minute, without sacrifices. You need to hack something up to push it back evenly. I used a threaded stud cut in halves and a piece of square tube with two holes drilled.
The most tedious part is taking the angle gear out. Those upper bolts are killing me each time I have to do them. Also pay attention to how you slide the AG past the subframe, engine and oil cooler. Need to lift it back exactly in the same way. Don't break off the breather filter/cap on top of the AG.

This is a much bigger job than I thought! I will have to get the car up on the hoist to have a better look at where the oil is leaking from. I thought they said it was from the seal on the end of the angle gear, but possibly I misheard.
Thanks for all the info!
Maybe I will call my ex-Volvo mechanic buddy and pay him to do that for me!
Neil.

I need to get it off the ground and have a closer look. I had that issue on a P80 so will check for the turbo line leak as well. Have to say the local Volvo dealer has pretty good mechanics and they were clear as to what the issue was. It is just me that is not clear!!

So where is it leaking from? And does the AWD still work on the car?

AWD works just fine. The picture they gave me looked like it was leaking from where the shaft enters the angle gear. But as we all know oil leaks are not always clear on where they originate.
Dealers here are not perfect, but not like in many parts of the US as I often read hear. Here they actually pay mechanics a half decent wage while making large profits from repairs.
The car belongs to our son who is not making a huge amount of money as he is working to build his own business. The dealer wanted around $500 CDN to fix it. That is around 2.5 hours labor (about $170/hr) plus parts. To remove the angle gear I would have thought it would be more time than that and parts cost I would have expected.
Anyways, I will update as and when I get pictures and a better idea of the issue.
Thanks for the help.
