The 2006 S60 SW bolt is loose and I need to tighten it. Common problem in P2 cars.
There are so many youtube videos on how to remove P2 airbag with instructions all over the place.
Everyone on youtube made it look so simple, yet I struggle with it, only to find out the tricks later.
This is a guide to make your life simple if:
- You have a loose SW bolt, or
- You need to remove airbag, or
- You need to swap SW.
1. D/C battery ground cable and wait 5-10 minutes.
2. Wear goggles just in case, safety first.
3. All you need is a small screwdriver and 18-mm socket.
4. Here is the trick.
* Insert key and turn to position II to allow you to turn steering wheel to 90 degrees..
* Insert the screwdriver in a straight manner, there is a small catch deep in the hole.
* Once you find the sweet "correct" spot, tilt the screwdriver's handle UPWARD a bit,
this will depress the lever DOWNWARD, releasing the latch. That is all.
5. The SW 18-mm bolt: I loosened it > halfway (no need to remove it), added a couple drops of
Red Loctite to the threads. Then tighten it. For this step, you want to remove the key so the
SW is locked so you can tighten the 18-mm bolt correctly.
Look it up online for the proper torque.
6. During re-installation of airbag, just press it in, no need to depress the latch.
That is all if you know the trick...
