2004 V70R - Can only shift from Park to Reverse

Post by hharrell4th »

My 04 VR shut down a couple of weeks ago and it had to be towed home. The fix was to replace the PEM but once I got every running, I'm unable to get past reverse. I hear the shifter repair fixes similar problems but I've searched and can't find anyone who was just stuck in Park and Reverse. Any ideas?

Solenoid and shifter claw kit replaced but still not able to shift past reverse. Any other ideas before I give up?

can you hear the interlock click when pressing the brake pedal.
installing a solenoid doesn't mean it moves.

- YouTube has a video on how to lift the trim around the shifter upward and now you can play with the shifter lock.

Yeah, I've tried that and it seems to be an issue with the shift cable binding, not the actual gear selector.

I have been here a long time and have never seen a seized cable.
I guess you can replace the cable and see what happens.

PS: Have you checked inside the engine compartment to see if the cable moves freely?

I confirmed the cable is fine. I got a suggestion to take out the shifter assembly and thoroughly clean all the goop out.
