Alright, I'm new here but not a new volvo owner. I've had my sonic blue V70R for 13 yrs now.

I'm getting the dreaded no communication with tool issue. Initially it was a blank with no X, then I manually updated the registry and now I have a box with an X but it still doesn't recognize anything.

I'm running Vida on a windows 10 home machine (fresh install).
I'm running it through Edge with the IE compatibility mode.
I have a V160 JRL pro data cable and downloaded the driver from OPUS website.

I'm at a loss as to what I need to do to fix this? I've never had VIDA/Dice before so this is my first time trying to connect. Thanks in advance for any help.

Did you use the registry update file mentioned in the installation guide or changed the values by yourself trough regedit? There shouldn't be any "x", only a drop down menu where dice (or other) device is listed. If there's no device listed under the drop down menu it usually indicated problems with drivers. I can't help you further but sometimes restarting the system helps after installing drivers.

You're probably not using internet explorer (Microsoft forces you to use EDGE for quite some time now). If you're using EDGE open the drop down menu from top right (three dots) and choose "Reload in internet explorer mode".


Now to my own question: Everything works, I can read fault codes, erase them, have access to EWD and so on, but under vehicle communication I can't enter into modules to run activations and see running parameters. I can click on the module, but nothing happens. I've tried IE TAB aswell, but same problem.
The problem is intermittent, it starts working out of the blue and stops few minutes after. 95% of the time it doesn't work. No problems so far when using VDASH.
I'm using win 10 with EDGE in IE compability mode.

Edit 1: Did a quick test with XP virtual machine using IE7 and everything was working as it should. The problem probably lies in EDGE compabity mode. I'll try to re-enable IE on win10 and see how it goes. I'll edit this post after tests.

Decided it was time to bring all the install information together in one place.

2014D_Repack.iso
Patch 2014A-B-D-2099.zip

Click the link above to get the 2099 patch. Upack it to a folder.
To get the 2014D_Repack.iso Copy the magnet link in the line below to your clipboard.

In qBitorrent go to File on the menu then select Add Torrent link.
In the box start a new line and paste the magnet link from the clipboard.
Click download.

Other bittorrent clients have a means to manually add the magnet link.


1. Manually install .net framework 3.5.

• Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features\Turn Windows Features on and off\ Check mark the box for .Net Frame 3.5. Click [ OK ] wait for .Net Frame 3.5 to install then reboot.
  
  While you are there enable Internet Explorer 11 if it is not enabled

2. In Windows File Explorer navigate to the 2014D_Repack.iso. Select, Left click then Mount.

• The iso will show in the right panel as a DVD drive.

3. Run scripts 1- 3, in the root directory of VIDA2014D_RePack.iso, one at a time.

4. Run the 2099 patch

5. Run Script 4

• . Do not run Script 5

6. Reboot

7. Wait for Java to request a firewall exception.

8. Wait for Vida monitor to turn green.

9. In Microsoft Edge install the extension IE Tab. Use IE Tab to open http://localhost/Vida/ this will take you to the VIDA login in page. Approve the install of the IE Tab helper program. How bookmark the VIDA login page. From now on use the bookmark to startup VIDA.

There is also a IE Tab for Google chrome. You can use it to operate VIDA in Google Chrome.

• Note: Do not uninstall IE11. IE Tab uses the IE11 rendering engine.

10. Password: admin or 1 - 4 for specific Partner groups.

Clean up: Uninstall Russian language Adobe reader if you are not going to use it.
You can delete the short cuts on the Desktop.

If DiCE does not work correctly. Run DiCE setup in :\3PP\Products\DiCE\

If you get a X in the interface box.
Run VidaMedia:\Install\Utils\EnableIEHostingxxx.reg .
Make sure you run the right one for your operating system.
xxx =x64 is for 64bit operating systems.
xxx =x86 is for 32bit operating systems.

Windows 10 pro fresh install, Netframework 3.5 installed, Vida monitor green icon.
I extract the patch manualy in C:\ by "old way", it is the same: I cannot enter anything in Login field.
Please help
