Here's another entry in the Name That Rusty Part chapterbook that we're writing together, but this time to mix it up let's play one round of "Name That Dusty Part"...

Hmm! I'm stuck on this one. Looks like a small heating coil of some sort. Is it on your 850 GLT? I can't see a fan impeller, or I might have guessed possibly the cabin temperature control behind the grab handles either side above the front doors?

But then there looks like water or oily substance around the plastic.

You got it! First guess... Congrats!! It is the cabin temp sensor on the 97 855. The fan is there but hard to see in my photo of it. Super dusty and not turning (ECC code 414) until I brushed it off.

No wonder these things need to be cleaned out. That is one tiny fan.

Nice addition! The carpeting threw me off because I expect this on the dashboard to the right of the steering wheel like on a 2000.

Your lucky they didn't hit it with an impact wrench! My wife took the XC90 in for an oil change a few years back--and the next time I went to change it--it seemed like the plug was harder than usual to loosen. Upon installing the plug and going to tighten it--it broke free. Drained clean oil and found a darn heely coil! That was during covid--and to order a longer plug was a waste of time waiting. Saw good thread -just not at the start. Ended up cutting a bolt from the hardware- and then filing the threads clean--just need to hand tighten to get it started--which would have worked at the Valvoline shop if that jerk had tried it!
