warpped head, 1984 850 2.4lt.

Just took my blown head to the machine shop(the gasket looked fine, but I had .14" of daylight between #2 & 3 cylinder. The machinist is talking, if the head is warpped "we can straighen it in a press and heating it" then we'll shave it.
He stated that when warrped the cams will rock if you don't straighten it.

Does this sound legit to any one?

if he rebuilds the head it will all come out about $400.00 to:shave, straighten and rebuild.

First he's going to check to see if it's crackedby doing a pressure check.

Tbh if the head is warped you may be better off getting another head off a scrapper and getting that reconditioned . If its warped then its weakened in my book and all the more likely to go again .

I warped the head ony my 850 t5 at just over 400kms when a heater hose blew. I believe and don't quote me on this, but i think volvo says up to 12 thousandith of an inch is acceptable to plain off the head.
I had to get the local UAP to plain 23 thousandith off my 2.3 head, didn't even remove the valves for this. Cost me 1.5hrs 75$ and got the gaskets through FCP groton. that was a year and a half ago aprox and the car is running strong. Manual boost controller cranked as well. These heads are durable. But new is always better.

Great to know that these heads can be made true for minimal cost...and in Canada at that! My recommendation is to find a good local mechanic who knows what he's going and has connections to a good machine shop that can machine your engine. Why pay more if it can be done for this kind of price?
