2013 c30 overheating sporadically

My 2013 C30 has overheated twice. The two times it has overheated it was in city stop-and-go traffic and over 90 degrees and sunny. Once it cools down, it goes back to normal for weeks at a time. I had the coolant system inspected and they found nothing wrong (even the mechanic said "I dunno, maybe take it to Volvo"). Potentially related, the AC starts to blow hot if it idles for more than a minute but has been fully charged and inspected. The AC is great and the engine is properly cooled when highway driving. I'm stumped. Got any ideas?

I would guess an issue with the thermostat. Could be getting stuck closed. Another possibility is with the coolant temp sensor. Cheap fix if it's one of those two.

Cooling fan kicking on when it was overheating?

I assume the coolant level is ok and you have no leaks. The octopus hose under the intake piping is notorious for leaks.
