1987 850 VIN plate in engine bay

Could someone tell me the meaning of the different numbers and letters appearing on the plate in the engine bay?

Of course, there is the VIN number, but just above it there are other numbers like 854, V, and 1.
On the right side, there are other numbers and letters. On my plate, I have 31, 3971, 189-23 and below the letters (and digit) EE1AAMS.

I know that the 189 is for the paint colour, but what about this -23?

3981 is the interior trim color

The lower right 7 or 8 digit number is the suspension part ID's, sway bars ID and steering rack. Some 850's don't have the 8th digit as most only came with the TRW rack. This is also helpful:
