Almost had me guessing fuel filter but my Spidy Sense tells me ancient near end of life AC accumulator-drier

Oooh, that is tricky! Yellow paint was a good mis-direction! Never seen a yellow version of the drier. Well done Abscate.

I thought I recognized the little pack of silica gel inside. Don’t forget the duct tape with a zip tie on the outside before the recharge.

My only guess was a catalytic converter due to the radial rib at the bottom. But that didn't explain the white bit inside. Clearly the silica gel. Good catch, abscate.

I may have my own one or two receiver/dryers to post on here at some point.

What paint do you use? I have really mixed results with rust-oleum 2x. No matter what I do, sometimes it stays tacky and scrapes right off. I've tried leaving it to dry for over 48 hours, using primer, spraying it onto bare metal, and using rust reformer on the metal before paint. Sometimes it dries hard, but most times I can just scrape it off with my fingernail.

Celen, clean and more clean. Soak in EvapoRust if you don't have a molasses bath rig. Then I like this stuff

The guys on the Studebaker forum swear by it; found mine on sale some years ago at Ace, a gallon lasts a really long time, a smaller jug is more budget friendly. I let the acid etch for at least a day. Self-etching primer, ditto. I don't have any experience with the all-in-one paints, regular Rustoleum seems to work for me. I tend to use a really light misting first coat for both prime and top coat.

How do you deal with actual degradation of the metal? My rear exhaust hanger seems to have swollen and cracked, as if pieces of the metal will flake off (like all rusty parts). I think it's NLA (on 98 V70) so I could paint it, but it seems like the structural integrity is gone.

I just bought one last month off FCP, there's an updated design now that's one piece. Yours looks a lot better than ones I've replaced, and they were able to stand up to some abuse.

How can these be this rusted, but the sticker still be on there and partly legible?
