A 99 NON turbo motor
You will have some issues with others, MAYBE a 2000 NA engine will work, MAYBE, but that would be it.
Line up an engine first, that car is worth no more than $500 if everything else is OK (which you don't know because it won't run).
I assume a timing belt broke, so imagine the "good" care it got along the line.....NO SERVICING
Try www.erievovo.com for an engine, they're guaranteed

Head gasket
Cracked block!
Who knows, check it out.
A head gasket may cost as much as a used engine installed

and this has what to do with this question
99s and newer are totally different, cannot go into a 98 and a 98 cannot go into a 99

You can put a brand new crate engine in it for only $6K. Of course you could buy a runner with about 100K miles on it for that price. If it's not a turbo, let it go for parts, you'll never get back what you put into it.
