My 05 XC90 looked much the same and was likely the original fluid too. Had a motorcycle once that the fluid was even darker brown.

Now get the Volvo leather care kit (part number 31375176) and apply a good coat of leather protection cream. Wait a few days and repeat one or two more time, until the leather becomes soft to touch. Keep doing that every 6 months and it will look like new for another decade.

I'm pretty sure similar kit was previously sold at IKEA for a bit more reasonable price, but can't find it anymore.

No difference in by brakes now that the fluid has been changed but it will make braking safer without the moisture content of the past 18 years

This is what 18 year old brake fluid looks like?

I WANT A FACTORY HITCH!
Aren't you in Montana? There's a couple Xc70 in the junkyard here that I was going to grab one of them before a free one fell in my lap. I don't know how hard they are to find but I could probably get one and ship it to you.

That's the one. Mine actually came with the cover (part number #6) and an instruction manual for installation and a template for cutting the plastic bumper that looked like it was published by the same people that make the IKEA instructions. I should have kept it but installation is very self explanatory.

I drove two hours for a dentist appointment, and 3/4 hours back through some beautiful mountain roads including a "shortcut" through an uneven dirt/rock logging road. I did the zip tie fix for the a/c, and it worked the whole way in 100-degree weather.

^^^ Nice!

Last night we went on a search for the Breyer's non-ice cream ice cream (allergies to dairy). None found at big stores. Drove up one of the hills to look out over the new smoke that has just arrived. When we pulled up at home, probably 35 minutes later, a huge branch had broken from our very old crabapple tree and fallen across the sidewalk and almost to the middle of the street. RIGHT where we park in the shade. What are the odds? Also lucky someone wasn't walking by right then.
