How on earth does the cover of the center dash speaker come off? I need to fix a crack in the surround, but it's proving to be quite stubborn. I believe it has four push tabs. Does the speaker grill come off separately, leaving the surround intact, or does the entire top section come off? Even with the dash removed, I can't be certain, and I'm hesitant to risk further damage.

It is a devil! The whole outer section you can see comes off. I started at the back with a plastic 'bone' tool and a blunt flat blade screw driver.

Those pins do come out (or they did in my case), but then I had the whole dash pad off while re-building the lower dash mounts. I did spray some silicon oil on the pins first.

To repair the cracks, I bent the tabs back on the grille and carefully prized it off. I then had to replace the speaker cover foam which had totally disintegrated! I bought some suitable material off Amazon.

For the actual repairs I use JB Weld plastic 2 part epoxy.
