Volvo to produce an electric MINIVAN

Post by matthew1 »

Sorry for the caps in the Subject line, but this is big news. They don't want to use the word "minivan" and instead call it an "MPV", which is terminology used in Europe. It's a minivan here in the 'States though, sorry Volvo.

It's not clear if it'll make it to our shores, and if I had to guess, I'd guess No because there is no mention of it on the Volvo US media site. I'd love to have a Volvo minivan, or at least have the choice to buy one.
The Volvo EM90 is our first ever fully electric premium MPV, and is designed for you to make the most of the time spent in the car, like a Scandinavian living room on the move. The new EM90 doesn’t just allow you to travel from A to B – it creates room for your life.

The Volvo EM90 will make its global debut on 12 November 2023. Pre-order will start for customers in China on the same date.

That shape is definitely minivan and not wagon or SUV. Can't say I like it.

Tint the windows dark so people can't see you driving it. :D

I'd love this thing for camping, roadtrips, even day trips. Throw a roof rack on there for skis and you're set.

We only allow 30% tint on windows here. How’s that going to work?

Wear a paper bag?

Interesting this is announced only a month or so before release .. We haven’t seen any mules or spy shots?

It does look big. Not quite Sprinter, but big.

There is a small stylish Mercedes van I’ve see around. Way smaller than a Sprinter. Seems to be aimed at plumbers and such in Germany, but you can buy it with windows and seats.

Than there’s the VW bus arriving in the US soon. All electric. We get the long wheelbase for now (or forever).

I withdraw my idea of the Mercedes van. It’s called a Metris, and seems clearly designed as a utilitarian cargo van (good for campers), but a real compromise as a people van, and it was $43,000 for a base model in 2017 -

Mercedes also had a smaller van in Europe called the Vito:

I have seen these in Canada, but not often.
