Hi,
I just brought my 2009 Volvo S80 home from mechanic. They replaced a light bulb because their was a Volvo service light saying light bulb position [see attached pic]. The other service light they were supposed to address is the hood open light. Hood is closed. 1st they called and said they couldn't find hood sensor. I asked them to keep looking. Does this make/model have a hood sensor or latch? Where is sensor/latch located. They still hadn't found it when I went to pick it up so it's still on and I need it replaced or fixed is there a process as far as check and see if it's a sensor or check and see if it's a broken latch or how does that work I feel like I need to send them to link very discouraging my check engine light is back on as well fifth time in for repairs on it kind of lost my spirit here

Hi,
My hood release works fine, and my hood is shut but the service light says "hood engine open".
Mechanic couldn't find hood sensor/latch, so they couldn't fix it. Can you tell me if this make/model has a sensor or a latch and where it is located? What is the 1st thing you check, if its plugged in? Then?
Thank you.
Diana

Really old post but since I just went through this with my 2007 S80 I share my experience.
I found the switch on the passenger side!! It is well hidden. If you pop the headlight out, easy to do with the S80, you can see the connector on the right side facing the front of the headlight.
My switch worked fine but no matter what I couldn't get the lock arm to push it down far enough. Even tried bending the metal reed on the switch. Finally I just jumpered it to get rid of the alarm.
My hood latch was also sticking. I tried everything to get another 1/8 inch of throw from the cable to trip the lock mechanism. No luck. Cable must have stretched slightly with time or something got worn. My hack was to make a skinny paper clip-like part out of clothes hanger material and pinch it down onto the cable between the lock trip mechanism and the pressed-on cable stop. So far this is working fine.BTW this was on the driver side where it was sticking not the passenger side where the switch is located.
