How to start a flooded engine with long crank, no start

Post by FireFox31 »

My 2000 V70 will give me a long crank but no start. I think the engine is flooded after repeated failed attempts. Or, it might be the fault of VIDA; when/after using it, I get an ECM-720A "immobilizer faulty communication" code.

Here's a video of long crank, no start . What might cause this and how can I resolve it?

Extra info:
I just replaced the ECT which failed, giving much faster/normal crank but no start due to incorrect fuel supply from bad temperature reading. The car wouldn't start today, many attempts may have flooded the engine.

I got the car to start by letting it continue cranking while feathering the gas pedal. It wanted to start but just needed help catching. When it finally started, it wanted to stall so I kept gently on the gas holding it at 1000 RPM. Took a few minutes before I was confident it wouldn't stall when I release the gas.

Is there a better way to start a flooded engine? I read here years ago that you could step on the gas all the way to the kickdown And then start it. Something about leaving it wide open would make it work.

The hard labour way is to pull the plugs and give each cylinder a squirt of engine oil. Starting fluid might help to get some fire in their to light off that excess gas.

I believe in ETB cars, m 1999-2000 , the software will open the throttle body wide on a floored engine. Sounds like a good driveway video
