I recently acquired a "new to me" 2018 S90 which I love, but two weeks ago it developed a problem that I have had trouble addressing.
The "Right Side Steering Wheel Keypad" is having issues. The Left, Right arrows and Select button do not work consistently. Some days they do not work at all, though the Up and Down arrows have continued to work fine to control the volume (by default). On two occasions the Right arrow works, but not the Left.
This is frustrating as I have gotten used to having the App Menu available to make and receive calls and change media types. Now, even answering an inbound call requires more attention as I cannot just press the answer button.
As I researched the issue, I have seen others with the same problem over the past several years, but I cannot find a definitive fix for the problem. I do not see a download patch for it, and other than a suggestion to remove and reset the fuse to temporarily fix the symptom, I haven't found a solution.
Are others having this problem, and are there insights into how to permanently remedy the situation?
Thank you,
Chris

I am having this exact same problem on my "new to me" 2019 XC60.
Any updates on a fix?

It seems you are definitely not alone in experiencing this issue with faulty steering wheel controls, as another member chimed in saying they are having the exact same problem in their Volvo XC60.
Unfortunately from reviewing this thread and other similar discussions online, it does not appear there is a definitive permanent fix documented yet. The intermittent nature of the problem makes it difficult to diagnose.
Some potential things that could be tried:
Take it to the dealer and have them plug in to perform diagnostic testing. There may be a technical service bulletin or firmware update available to address it.
Check for any corrosion or loose connections at the steering wheel control module wires/connector. Clean and reseat as needed.
As a last resort, replacement of the entire steering wheel control module may be necessary if no other repairs work. Aftermarket upgrade options are also possibilities.
Continued reporting of the problem to Volvo may also help in developing an official fix if it is a common electrical issue on these models. Hopefully more members can contribute any repairs they've tried and whether problems persisted in the long term. collaboration could help narrow down the root cause.
