New Keys and Fob 2003 XC 70

Post by Blacklab467 »

I had ordered a new key from our local Volvo dealer because I didn't have a spare, nor a spare fob. My old rubber key was getting pretty gnarly looking and the rubber went gooey and was peeling away. I was concerned that with time the chip might be exposed and damaged or lost if I continued to use it. Here's a rundown of how much you can expect to pay At the Volvo dealer for a Valeo key and FOB:
I ordered just a key not a FOB: quoted $75.26 plus $95.00 for programming ($170.26) . Quote for FOB was $258.85 plus $95.00 for programming ($353.85). When I showed up for the first appointment the service writer said he had a new FOB but no key, I told him I didn't order or want a new FOB, we made another appointment for 2 weeks later to get and program a new key. When I came back he had the new key programmed to my car and asked if I wanted to FOB as well. I said "not for $353.85, I don't really need it". He agreed to reduce the price to $100. For $270.26 I left with a brand new Key and FOB. Full retail for both would have been $524.11. These prices are in CDN. I will take the gnarly old key and dig the chip out of it and get a transponder key with pocket and get that cut for my car and install the chip in the aftermarket transponder key for a spare.

.

Christmas is really early this year. Nice of your dealer and I'm sure you were more than happy to only fork out an additional $100 for the FOB.

.
Blessings,

Heck I worked there and they never gave me a price break like that!! If they had programmed it they were stuck with it so maybe it was a way of getting some of the money back, even just the programming!
