Hi all, I'm hoping someone can tell me how to hardwire my interior dimmer switch. Thanks so much!

Sorry to be dim (and for the pun!!) but what are you trying to dim? The interior lights like the ones that come on to light the interior at night when you get in/out or are you talking the instrument panel. I can't recall if the 850 has that already fitted, the 98- V/S/C70's have a separate switch beside the main headlight switch for that.

Hi Neil, referring to the dash lights, the sliding dimmer dies which results in flashing lights. Part no longer made. Thx

Have you tried to clean the slider with something like De-Oxit D5 contact cleaner? I just had to do some research to remind me where it fitted on the dash. It is hidden behind the fog light switch.

Looking at Ebay pictures (there seems to be a few with stupid shipping prices) it looks like you can remove the slider button and then there are 2 tabs on opposite sides about 0.5" back from the front that should open it up. Products like De-Oxit D5 are sold for cleaning staticky volume knobs and the likes which have a build up of oxide on the contacts causing issues with good electrical contact.

De-Oxit is not cheap, but I found it locally at a music store for musical equipment. Amazon carries it at a premium.

Otherwise it is the used part route but how good they are now at at least 25 years old is a good question. I'll have to try to remember to pull one or 2 next time I am at the junkyard now I know it is NLA.

Here is a thread on the same subject. The unit is not what I expected. The owner came up with an interesting solution that may or may not work for you!

Hello . I recommend you take it to a store to have it adjusted. Otherwise, it will be very difficult to adjust

Mine failed some time ago, I just remember it looking way more complicated than I thought it would be. I bought a used replacement off ebay. Otherwise I think the jumping sounds like a good solution, I only ever use the highest setting anyways.
