Unfortunate new Volvo owner! (98 V70 AWD)

There is a plastic rod between the blend door and the servo motor. They break making the flap stick wide open.

To access, remove the glove box which allows you to access the 2 screws for the under tray. Remove the under tray and you can now see the air system fan motor and to the left there is the blend door servo.

Don't disconnect anything yet. Switch the ignition on and cycle the hot to cold and watch on the LHS for the servo motor to move the flap. I can't currently recall which way you need it to install a new rod if it is broken. But make sure you get it right so the motor can turn and move the flap into position in the closed position.

To remove the motor there is just one T15 or T10 screw on the motor and it can then be slid out to allow fitting a new rod.

P80 heater cores are full flow. Temperature is controlled by a blend door which mixes heated and ambient or cooled air. No heat means a bad blend door motor or signal, 99.3% if the time.

Yep, this - it’ll always see coolant, even with the heat off.

It’s dual zone - see if it’s not hot on both sides. It’s odd for both to fail at the same time

Thanks for the replies fellas, The heater tubes through the firewall both got blazin' hot on my drive.
I sat today with the car running and quickly cycled the temp knobs for both sides. I don't hear anything moving (for either control) or any changes in airflow. I'll rip out the glove box and do more sleuthing.

I removed the passenger motor and confirmed it wasn't turning. I took it apart, cleaned the old dialectic grease off the resistor area and checked it over. I coated the area with DeOxIt and reinstalled. It moved a few times and stopped. Not sure where to go from here.
Not sure if it's just the unit not sending the correct feedback signal or the climate control unit. I guess I'll have to keep poking around.

I highly suggest reading through my climate nightmare thread. There’s tons of good info in there. Also highly recommend getting the 850 OBDII app and a Bluetooth OBDII dongle so you can see live data from the ECC unit. It helps tremendously for helping diagnose these issues.

850 OBD2 app and cheapo Bluetooth module is your best option, and is the best $12 I’ve spend for my ‘98

Welp, I have the ubiquitous blue ELM327 Bluetooth adapter but the app complains that it doesn't have the necessary functions, is not compatible, etc.
What is the one to buy?

I’ve got a blue Panlong brand one I got off Amazon a few years ago for $9 and it works fine. Another member got one for free from a random guy in an O’Reilly’s parking lot.

Climate control:
I found a newer obdii adapter and was able to do...something...with the motors after cleaning them internally. I don't know if any of the motor adjustment functions ever actually did anything, as the function always got stuck at 80%. But, I got everything working somehow.

In other news, I got the cruise control working by "adjusting" the brake pedal switch / valve, and tinkered with the peeling plastic coating on the roof trim and replaced one of the clips.
