2006 xc70 parts advice

Post by madeesawnv »

hi all, i have a 2006 xc70 that was totaled in an accident but i kept it for parts. just the front left wheel/headlight was affected.

my storage arrangement has an expiration date so i was wondering...
does anyone have advice as to what parts i should make a priority to keep for my other xc70? and which ones would be most profitable to sell? i just want to be able to pay my friend for taking up their driveway for a few months.. but winter is coming and i could use some direction

Why fuel injectors, just curious? I haven’t really seen/read of them going bad, so no real market for them I know of?

Also brake calipers, anything that was replaced recently (ignition coils?).

If it has backup sensors I’d consider buying those plus a few other basic things from it if you’ll ship to Iowa, would save me a trip to the junkyard, send me a PM on here if interested.

I would take the angle gear out and see if the splines are still good and keep it if they are, also keep the propshaft and struts and CV axles if they are original and still good. Passenger side seatskin so you have a spare when your driver's side wears out, also fog lamps, being that you're in Minnesota and they probably gravel roads there still. And anything electric or electronic, radiator , fuel pump, starter and alternator. Basically anything that could save you a trip to the auto wreckers. These cars are going to be scarce in a couple years. I would even pull the engine and transmission if you have room to store it.

Not too much compatibility between the 2006 and 2000 XC70 in your .sig

Basically you will be holding parts to sell, which you have to do full time or not at all. Once the dust settles, it’s a $10 an hour enterprise selling onde off parts. I had one car that broke this rule as I sold body parts, engine, transmission all in first month. Never repeated that success

I had my crashed wagon parted out and laying around garage and in the basement for 6 years. Hopes that the parts will be reused or sold for profit did not materialize. I just could not justify using a 20 years old sensor to fix a problem, only to get it again soon, but now in the middle of nowhere.

Sell it to junk yard as is or part it out yourself and separate valuable metals like copper and aluminum, you can make a few hundreds dollars out of it. This car has a lot of aluminum.

Muffler, alternator, power steering pump, axles, anything that requires a core that you could have extra to prevent downtime.

Much of my time during the job is spent hauling things up and down the stairs to the basement or in and out of the storage shed, or running back downstairs when I realize I need something else,or taking a break from standing out in the sun,or using flashlights or work lamps when it gets dark.

Harvest the catalytic converter. Always sellable for $500 so a high value item.

It will suck getting the downpipe off , but that’s the price of parting out.

Have your ID and a proof of ownership ready =) I was working on (under) my truck, on my driveway, in the day light and someone called the police for alleged catalytic converter theft.
