Hi all,
Newbie here with a very recently purchased V70 2.4D from 2001.
What l did today to my Volvo were:
-located the fluid leak on the power steering rack
-realised that the rack itself is kinda' loose and knocks a bit, although it isn't yet apparent while driving
-pressure washed the coolers as they were covered in literally a few millimeters / quarter of an inch oil+dust mix. So were the bottom of the engine and the subframe (which is Hungary is called a cradle)
-l would love to be right in thinking that l have a hole in the intercooler and that sprays the oil all over the show at the front. The cylinder head, the oil filter's surroundings, the turbo are all bone dry...
-l typed my VIN number in on different pages to see what l can find... the number came back as "invalid"

It's great to be here!
Regardinhos! :)

I wouldn't think there's enough oil vapor in the intercooler to soak things, unless the turbo seals are failing.

There's also a huge vapor intake via PTC (PCV). Especially relevant on old high mileage engines with bore taper and worn compression rings.

I had a brand new Volvo turbo and IC still got a lot of oil condensation. Sort of reduced to acceptable levels after rebuilding the engine, which included new piston rings and re-hone the bores.

I drove about 6-7 hours to college, and my volvo worked great! Averaged about 24mpg, which is lower than I expected, but maybe it was becasue the car was full of my stuff. After a summer full of repairs, hopefully it will be reliable until I get home.

Apparently the issue had been neglected for several years and around 150k kms...

I found some accessories that I needed for my car on a car that just made it to the auto wreckers a day earlier. A nice dog grate, cargo cover, cargo net, and a OEM Volvo trailer hitch and factory wiring that I shipped to another MVS member yesterday.

Dog gate that’s a grate pickup!

On the S60R: lifted the cowl, thoroughly cleaned up under there, removed the heater blower intake snorkel and washed it clean with warm soapy water, including completely cleaned the weatherstrip on the bottom. Overall removed a lot of accumulated grime and buildup. Installed some 1/4” adhesive rubber weatherstrip below the intake snorkel and snapped it back down into place.

Hopefully this solves the water ingress problem. Sunroof drains are not the source. Raining this weekend so I’ll find out.

@ Blacklab467 That's the first time I've seen another pocket net, it's a handy bit of kit for storing small items in the boot/trunk
