Abscate, hope you’re keeping above water wherever you are. I’m somehow thinking you’re in the Queens/ Brooklyn corner of NYC.

Put in the ABS module (99 V70) had symptoms on and off for some time. It went okay but still have the dash lights.
Tried to clear them but it didn't work. Only code I have is the p0722 which is the output speed shaft sensor. Which was replaced at the shop a while ago but I'm wondering if that was bad when I got it. Because I've had that code ever since.

No luck on the throttle body Xemodex does not have any in stock, looks like I'll have to send it in at some point and deal without a vehicle for a bit. But at this point I'm thinking that's not going to solve those issues either because everything thats replaced doesn't seem to work. I have a knock now which is super depressing. Usually upon starting but seems to go away.

What engine do you have? Turbo or non-turbo? I have a spare NA one that was having issues, but may actually be ok as the owner found they had a bad fuel pump relay after changing the ETS's twice. I also have a few turbo ETM's of unknown condition from V70XC and V70/S70's. So if you need a core, you can have them for what I paid for them from the junkyard + shipping. If you are sending to Xemodex, are they still in Canada or do they have a US operation now? I could send it direct from here.

Anyway it is an option.

The knock is concerning. Have you checked the VVT solenoid is working and checked the timing has not jumped a tooth? Seems strange you get it on start up but then it goes away. If it was a rod knock I'd expect it to stay bad.

Thanks. I was thinking the same on the knock. 2.4 L non-turbo. I pulled a couple from the junkyard they didn't work. I often wonder about that fuel pump but the ETS light is on, not sure if that makes a difference.
Yes, Xemodex still in Canada. ETM has never been replaced It's the original. I'm not any sort of a mechanic but can do very basic stuff. Where is the fuel relay? All the way in the back?

The fuel relay is in the fuse box at the back of the engine compartment near the wipers. The front half opens to access the fuses, but if you remove the 4 x T25 screws holding the top on, it allows you to access the rear section where the fuel pump relay lives. It is typically red with the number 103 on it. Do not replace with a KAE brand one as they are junk. You are better of trying to replace with a junkyard Volvo one.

When the ETS light is on, it means it is not happy. They wear out over time which means they don't regulate the fuel supply correctly. Talk to Xemodex, and they may be able to advise you what needs done.

Hi,

I had issues with my fuel pump 'relay' too in a 1998 v70 non turbo. It's really a relay and control board.
The problem I found was the electrolytic capacitors go bad in that thing, and this is a known issue for this car. Electrolytic capacitors are known to not last forever unlike ceramic capacitors. One was even a little more questionable because the voltage rating although higher than 12v or 14v or 15v (typical charging voltages) it was not above that by enough, and electrolytic capacitors are also known to work better when their voltage rating is quite a bit higher than the actual operating voltage. If i remember right, the voltage of one was just 16 volts, and that's not very much higher than 15 volts, although i've seen mostly 14 volts for when charging with this car. A better choice would be 25 volts as that is almost twice the normal 14 volts charging voltage for the 1998 v70. If they used a 25v cap for this it would probably last a lot longer, assuming it was a quality capacitor. I replaced mine with a 25v cap.
The capacitors are responsible for the ECU timing check. If the ECU timing goes out of bounds for any reason, the fuel pump control circuit will turn the physical relay off, thus turning off the fuel pump. It's a safety feature but if the caps go bad it detects a bad ECU signal when really it's not bad at all.
I was able to test mine with a signal generator and found that the relay would turn off with even a good signal, but once the two electrolytic caps were replaced, the relay stayed on after that, except of course for a genuinely bad ECU signal.

The circuit, circuit operation, and repair are all documented here on MVS if you do a search that info should turn up.
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

Bypass the relay with a jump wire for testing, eliminate this failure mode definitively

When the ETS light comes on you have 5000-10000 miles of motoring, roughly, before the faults will trip you into limp mode. If it’s just come on, it will probably run ok.

There are a couple of faults, like brake position sensor, that will trip an ETS light with no throttle body problems

Ebay late model ETM is $150-200 and you are done. No software required. See ETM Room forum below

Last day of the month therefore the last day of the year for the 850 to be on the road. This morning I took it for a 30 mile drive to get it all nice and warm, came home and washed all the coo shit off it, blasted the underside with the hose, washed the wheel arches, towel dried everything including the door shuts, then went out for another 5 mile drive to dry off any water that was still on the car.

Have replaced dashboards speakers, dead ones, with the ones from a V70. It works fine. Sound equilibrium back again. But one of my speaker is out. Need to find another one. Do you think speakers from a more recent V70 could fit ?
