They look interesting and different in silver. Don't need to worry about them flaking!! Maybe some clear coat to stop them tarnishing?

Glad to hear of the progress on the heating system. I've been talking to a guy who is having similar challenges with his 98 V70.

I bought a Veepak Bluetooth ELM327 from Amazon. Not cheap, but it kind of works with 850 OBD2. I just need a -98 car in my garage long enough that doesn't need a crap load of work and an owner that needs it as a daily so I can try that and my laptop and cable with Vol-fcr.

It would be really handy to have a diagnostic tool for 96-98 cars available. I tried my Autel 8XX unit, but it would not read the Vin# so you have to enter everything manually, and then it did find a couple of codes but then froze and would not allow me to do anything else. Sometimes I wonder if it is a car rather than the tools (or the tool using it! )

I *think* after cleaning the motors and setting the gears so that the positions corresponded with the temp settings (e.g. setting the flap and motor to 100% hot), then clearing the ECC codes and using the "exit adjustment" option, it may have reset the system. Not sure, but whatever I did ended up working, at least for now.
A better software option would be great, but I imagine demand is low (and shrinking).

Glad your climate fix was far easier than mine. As long as it works well without issue, no need to fuss about the numbers being reported. The ECC system is very odd for sure - it felt sort of like I was tinkering with a mechanical engineering student's final project when I was messing with it on my car. Lots of quirks. The "exit adjustment" basically tells the system to ignore certain fault codes to kick it out of relearn if it's stuck there. Worked for mine too (once I got a working blend door motor in there and fixed the broken flap).

Hello everyone, through a series of unfortunate circumstances, I am a new owner of a 200k+ mile '98 V70. Seems it was thoroughly (mechanically) abused before I got it, so I'm picking away at it. No rust or major body damage though!

As bought: Power steering pump about to come apart, rotten tires and a dead fuel pump. Sat under a tree for a few years, so there was tree junk everywhere.

It was smoking badly so I did the ol' PCV service.

Got the power steering pump replaced, along with new a new tensioner.
Put a few miles on it, and it started belching oil everywhere. These were the culprit:

They were so rotten they basically had already uninstalled themselves.

The next huge puddles were caused by a bad steering rack, so...

Got it from Detroit Axle. Lifetime warranty - we'll see what happens.

The ABS started freaking out, so I took out the ABS module and re-soldered a bunch of connections. Also found this:

So I soldered that back up. ABS / TRACS works fine now.

Both parking brake cables are broken. The brakes were making a horrible noise, so I "deleted" the parking brakes for now. Fixed!

As it sits right now. I got some new shoes, and traded wheels with a friend:

Cleaned everything
"Uninstalled" headliner, cleaned fiberglass shell.
New double-DIN stereo install (in progress)
Fixed some vac leaks
Replace a bunch of dead dash lights
Black front turn signal lenses (old ones were broken)
Seafoam treatment

To do:
The new fuel pump is loud. Like unbearably loud. I don't think I can handle it. The AWD fuel pump is shaped weird and Volvo units are unavailable, so I might have to hack in an external pump somehow.
-Alignment
-Still lots of blow-by. I have an aux PCV system in mind.
-The Nivomats sag. I'm going to lower the front an inch-ish to the dismay of my wife.
-Lots more, I'm sure.
-Maybe drive it?

The walbro pump has been working fine for a few months. I detailed the mods necessary to fit it in the pro parts housing a few pages back <<

So my ECC blend motors are all screwy again. The motors themselves seem fine internally, but I did notice that the ECC is only sending the motors around 9V or -9V, and they get stuck. I looked up the part number of the actual motor inside the unit, and it's 12V of course.

Has anyone probed the voltage sent to the motors? I'm wondering if the problem is in the control unit - that might explain both motors going wonky.
