Hi all. Can someone please help. I have a June 2001 build V70XC Australia 150k one owner when purchased. The dreaded ETM 8644347 has died. Deliberating on a Chinese refurbished one { can't find remanufactured one } However I suspect it won't reprogram at dealership on Vida when I get it. If so, then it's a big waste of time and aggravation as well as a costly exercise. The other alternative is to send to XEMODEX which is also overseas from me for a rebuild which at least then will plug and play being much more reliable and convenient not having to have it reprogrammed at least. Question, has anyone has any experiences with these ETM's and or with the alternatives I am proposing? I am finding it almost impossible to find anyone in Australia who can assist with a rebuild and there seems to be none available anywhere here, { clearly not enough volume here to warrant being available}, Volvo provided a part proposal at $900.00 which by the description seems to be the core only, [ Mind you, the parts person didn't know what a throttle body was, lordy lord ] The Volvo dealership representation In Australia for older Volvos at least is woeful. A second hand one would be a complete waste of time, as they are high failure modules and would require reprogram anyway. This car is otherwise very good, I am not going to let the Italians, who decided they would have a go at making ETM's for Volvo back in 1999-2001 [ before Volvo moved over to Bosch units ] get in the way of getting this car back on the road. Perhaps Sweden beat them at soccer that year lol. This item is posing a huge hurdle for me. Can anyone please offer some thoughts/ suggestions /solutions.
Ps my other Volvo is a simple 240GL wagon back when ABBA was good, lol.
Thanks Mark

I have heard it's possible to repurpose an old Lada(80s/90s model) TPS sensor and it works quite well. Experience is required.
But yeah you either get the Volvo one and software will not be an issue OR you get the aftermarket contactless TPS and install it(experience required). Or send overseas as you mentioned and probably be out of a car for 1-2 months.

See the ETM room forum, below, for discussion of the 2012 on contactless ETM option, about $150-200
