Changed the oil in the 00 S70. Purchased 2 case of 3 gallons per case of Rotella T6 15W40. Someone on BTOG liked using the 15W40 and said he would dilute with the 5W40 if the weather was cooler. Was using Swepco 306 15W40 for years in CA. The 98 S70 T5 (circa 2012) was so smooth, quiet and robust when you exercised the turbo with the dino Swepco. Then accidentally purchased the Rotella T6 one day at $13 a gallon and put it into the 03 Odyssey. Because of the price and was in hurry to do the oil change didn't looked at or mattered which oil. I took a look at the bottle when the van ran really really smooth. Cost made me change over to Rotella.

I think the last change was using Costco's 15W40 dino diesel oil and the car responded well. Even got over 31 mpg on a 140 mile trip on the freeway. Trip computer use the mpg and calculated 615 miles till empty.

Since we are getting into cooler weather I decided to add one quart of Castrol 5W50 just in case it will be too thick. Car is quieter so the tire noise is more pronounced otherwise smooth running. Will see if I get over 32 mpg on the next 140 mile run.

I’ve been using 15w40 diesel oil as a top off for my P2s. I know it dilutes the 5 gallons of whatever I’m using but way cheaper than buying individual quarts. I never run past 5000 miles so likely any oil of correct viscosity would work for me.

Found a nice spoiler in black and installed it today. I've been looking for one of these for a while and they were discontinued recently from Volvo.

I went to a Volvo meet yesterday in the Glencoe area of the highlands, no flat roads, little chance for the gearbox to lock up in top gear (50mph) so a lot of driving around in 4th gear.

I filled up with Shell V-Power before I left home

A total of 255 miles. I used 6.715 gallons (30.53 litres) of V-Power giving a fuel consumption of 37.97mpg

That's some impressive mpg. My xc90 refuses to go past 20 mpg on the highway.

Spoilers do more to tastefully transform the look of P80 and P2 wagons than anything else.

Sorted… No parts required (sort of)

It’s been a few weeks now since I fitted the new alternator and battery. We all know these cars are voltage sensitive so I had hoped it would help with a fault code that was on the car when I purchased it. The dealer I bought the car from had cleared all codes before I arrived to view, I did a scan and it was clear, took it for a test drive and an ABS/BRAKE warning came up on the DIM. Back at his base I did another scan and it showed Brake Pressure Sensors faulty. The vendor claims it had never done that before but as soon as I lifted the bonnet he knew exactly where they were located. Hmm...

Once home I scanned with Vida and did a live data check, nothing untoward showed and I cleared the code. New genuine Volvo sensor costs around £250 each and cars with DSTC require two so I needed to be certain before committing to buy, I really didn’t feel the sensor(s) were faulty. The car would throw the fault most but not every time it was driven, there was no pattern to what was causing the fault to appear. With a new battery and alternator fitted I thought/hoped it would sort it out and a few days everything was fine, however one evening I went out to collect SWMBO from an event she had attended, I was waiting outside with the engine running and not touching anything when the DIM suddenly showed the ABS/BRAKE fault again. Next day I decided to remove the connections to the pressure sensors and clean the contacts with Deoxit D5, once dried I did a recalibration on Vida and to date the fault has not appeared again.

That DeOxit D5 works wonders!

Remember the difference between UK and US mpg. US 3.8 liters = 1 gallon, UK 4.5 liters = 1 gallon.

Hey now, this is a family environment. Keep those curves in check sir!

Otherwise fantastic location for a photoshoot. I especially like the contrast between the background and the vehicle.

Yes, what a dramatic setting. Is that solid rock, nothing growing on those hills?
