Changed the oil in the 00 S70. Purchased 2 case of 3 gallons per case of Rotella T6 15W40. Someone on BTOG liked using the 15W40 and said he would dilute with the 5W40 if the weather was cooler. Was using Swepco 306 15W40 for years in CA. The 98 S70 T5 (circa 2012) was so smooth, quiet and robust when you exercised the turbo with the dino Swepco. Then accidentally purchased the Rotella T6 one day at $13 a gallon and put it into the 03 Odyssey. Because of the price and was in hurry to do the oil change didn't looked at or mattered which oil. I took a look at the bottle when the van ran really really smooth. Cost made me change over to Rotella.

I think the last change was using Costco's 15W40 dino diesel oil and the car responded well. Even got over 31 mpg on a 140 mile trip on the freeway. Trip computer use the mpg and calculated 615 miles till empty.

Since we are getting into cooler weather I decided to add one quart of Castrol 5W50 just in case it will be too thick. Car is quieter so the tire noise is more pronounced otherwise smooth running. Will see if I get over 32 mpg on the next 140 mile run.

I’ve been using 15w40 diesel oil as a top off for my P2s. I know it dilutes the 5 gallons of whatever I’m using but way cheaper than buying individual quarts. I never run past 5000 miles so likely any oil of correct viscosity would work for me.
Did you mean the 15W40 as a top off to thicken? If not what heavy weight oil are you diluting?

That's the cleanest V70 I've ever seen. If the interior is as new as the exterior I would purchase that any day! Always like the clean sleeper look. Pegs, Thors & Orpheus are my top 3 rims.

I too was topping off with C3 diesel spec 15w40. Engine oil in a last few years before the engine rebuild was Red Line 10w40. Valve stem seals were compromised because of age and mileage, they were seeping oil quite a bit, up to 20-25 oz between oil changes at 5k miles intervals, which eventually caused a heavy cement-like deposits in combustion chambers and pitted exhaust valve faces.

Too bad white block design does not permit easy valve stem seals replacement.

Excellent but not sure when I'll hit the Jack Pot. A left hander sure will make it one of kind here. I wonder if I'll be too old by then to learn to drive safely in the passenger seat .

Usually 5qt of 5w30 High Mileage Full Synthetic and 1qt 15w40 Mobil Delvac 1300 to top it off. Thickens the 5w30 a little but not by a lot.

I went the opposite direction. 5 qt 15W40 T6 and 1 qt 5W50 Castrol. I should have gone all 15W40 as the engine seems to be doing well with the thicker oil. Winter will tell.
