Front CV Troubles

Post by Bren »

I'm getting clicking sounds and some serious 'wobbles' at times from the front lefthand side...EVERYTHING is super tight and there's nothing visual but it seems it must be the front left driveshaft.

Went to replace the thing and it WILL NOT pop out of the inner side...it is stuck completely in the trans. I was reefing on it so hard I thought I would break the trans housing...

Anyone seen this before? Any ideas?

All axles have a safety ring close to the end of the spline making it difficult to remove and install at times. I qualify that as axles with a carrier bearing may not have that clip at the spline as in the case with our 08 C30 T5 M66.

I used a large pry bar on our 08 C30 T5 last week and hammer it to no avail. Used a smaller 6" pry bar and that worked. Being at a better angle it wedged in between the bell housing and with a couple of strikes of a mallet it just popped out. Prying requires almost being at right angles with the axle which is really not possible.
.
Blessings,

BKM

I did this tutorial on how to remove the driver’s side, this should help. It’s more about technique than force!

Rotate until the open ends of the C-clips face downward.
Then use cold chisel (I use cardboard as cushion on
both sides of the cold chisel).
The trick is well documented in this forum, courtesy of "jimmy57".
