The door chime is no longer ON when I inserted the key before starting the car, door was closed. It used to have chime for about 10 times and then stopped or chime would stop when I start the car. Now, no chime at all. When door is open, chime is working fine.
Any suggestion is appreciated.
Thanks.

Maybe you need to replace the chime. It's a little blue box that looks like a relay, and it's located next to the steering column under the dash.
I have a box of about half a dozen of these, because the very first modification I do when I bring another Volvo home is to yank these annoying suckers out

It turned out to be the micro switch inside the seat belt catch was broken. It is open all the times even after the seat belt is inserted. Chime relay is fine. The only way to fix this, I think, is to replace the seat belt catch.

I found the wiring diagram of 855 wagon. The chime circuit has 2 branches, one for driver side door and the other went to a micro-switch inside the driver side seat belt catch and then to ground. This was for seat belt reminder purpose. Once seat belt is inserted into the catch, micro-switch will be in open state and stops the chime. Seat belt catch cannot be disassembled so need to get a new or used one.

You might be able to defeat it by removing the S terminal on the ignition switch electrical part, check the logic state of that to see if its NC or NO
