Finally got around to sourcing a replacement DS fender.

I think the first set was install around 2010 on the 2003 GS300. Can't really complain except for the groaning. Groaning was worst on the 03 Odyssey but both lasted quite sometime. Think that set is still on the Odyssey. I agree it's consider a name brand now and I used the Kit with their Evolution pads. Can't remember if the 98 S70 T5 had a set also?bmdubya1198 wrote: ↑27 Oct 2023, 08:39StopTech is actually a name brand, but their more budget-oriented lines are probably more similar to the generic brands. When you go to Amazon and look at all the manufacturers, they all kind of copy each other. The only generic brand I've used has been StopTech. I consider StopTech and R1 Concept generics. They groan really loud after some use but do last. Have used two to three sets on different cars. Will only go with OEM, name brands or EBC which is my first choice, all other stuff are just substandard.
.
They do have some good high performance brakes, and also make calipers and whatnot.
I've actually had really good experience with Powerstop. Their Evolution pads have been really good, and you can't beat the prices on Rock Auto.
Since using EBC on the front of the 08 C30 T5, front and rear of the 03 GS300 and rear of the 03 Odyssey it's definitely the brake of choice. Even with just the pads alone on the rear of the Odyssey with some generic rotors the dive under hard braking is reduced. Almost feel like being pulled to a stop.

I have yet to use EBC pads, but they have great feedback overall. I'd like to give them a try.MoVolvos wrote: ↑27 Oct 2023, 16:57 I think the first set was install around 2010 on the 2003 GS300. Yay, Chuck on finally getting the long sought for fender! It looks like a really nice one as well. Good find!
I took a quick run into on of the PnP yards today. Thermals on and thick jacket! Just had a handful of tools and my small 1/4" and 3/8" socket set. Plan was the to cut a wire pig-tail for the windshield wiper motor so I can try to find a way to test it. I knew there was a 00 V70 and a 98 V70 there. The V70 is where the motor was from so just had to remove the 4" of snow off the car and then cut the pig-tail.
Also realized I did not have a spare clock-spring for the 00 R and as I had already removed the steering wheel on the last visit it was a 2 minute job. At -6C and icy packed ground, minimum time was planned for! Had a quick look at the 98 but needed nothing from that.
Discovered there were 2 x V50's in the yard. Been looking for a spare PEM for the 06 XC70 for about a year, but it seems there is someone stockpiling them all as they are always gone. I had a spare but loaned it to my friends son who was trying to determine why his S60 would not start after running the tank dry. It was a long shot as I reckoned it would be the pump, as it was. Somehow the PEM never returned......!
Anyways, 25% of everything in the yard so unbelievably both cars had the PEM still inside them. So now I have a spare again and one for another friend.
All in about 20 mins in the yard. Perfect!
Neil.

Ouch. I was at the yard yesterday too... in shorts and a t-shirt. It was almost 80F
I'm going to enjoy it while I can, because I know in a week I'll be complaining about how cold it is... likely in the 60s!

I kinda forgot about it for a bit, but decided to look again when we were out of down down south on vacation a week ago.
Nothing close down there, but wound up with 3 pings closer to home. 2 were already crushed, but this one, the nicer of the bunch was still around, pulled and with the inner liner too.
Drove a couple hours over into OH to shag it.

I was covering for a buddy today running his store. My plan was on finishing to run to a 2nd junkyard to the visit yesterday, as they had a silver S70 listed. Although it was a 98, it may have a wood insert dash, console, gearshift know and glove box lid insert.
Naturally, 30 mins before the store was to close, it started snowing!!
I went anyways as it was really close to where I had been working. Walked around the junkyard but no silver 98 S70 to be found. Lots of P2's (none with rubber floor mats, someone must have a crap load of them!), but no S70. What I did find was a green 850?? I went back to the office, and sure enough, the S70 was still listed but no 850!
Wasted trip! Aargh!
Neil.

I sent one to Valhalla today. 98 V70XC. It ran good, but it was too rotted. Rear subframe was corroded to the point it was falling apart.
I got parts for 3 different wagons from it . So it still lives on. Cut all the sheet metal I need off it for my v70R. Also took a bunch of sheet metal for my buddy's accord he's doing rust repair on.
And the junkyard still gave me 400 bucks for it. Sounds like a win to me haha

Just put a link to the EBC pads, rotors or Kits for your car and check often. I purchased mine for around $140. It came on sale again several years later at $93 dollars. I should have purchased it but the cars are driven so little.bmdubya1198 wrote: ↑27 Oct 2023, 19:12I have yet to use EBC pads, but they have great feedback overall. Even with just the pads alone on the rear of the Odyssey with some generic rotors the dive under hard braking is reduced. Almost feel like being pulled to a stop.

As mentioned, with just a set of rear pads on our 03 Odyssey it removed a considerable amount of squat during braking. Be sure to bed it accordingly.

Well, as she was driving home yesterday from our neighborhood's Halloween festival, someone didn't pay attention and opened their door as she was driving by.

Looks like we're going to be looking for a new PS mirror (or a pair) in 419.
