Affordable, stand alone(?) Code reader for 98 s70, NA automatic

Hi folks,
Is there such a thing as a *good* reliable scanner for a 98 S70 that's reasonably priced? Preferably either stand alone like an OBD-ii reader or a Bluetooth connection to smartphone (android preferred) +application?

I've used an OBDlink LX which has been reliable but not detailed.

I also tried an el-cheapo bluetooth obd reader and an app "850 OBD-ii" app which seemed to get details, but literally only worked once... I got excited because it worked and didn't take screenshots because I knew I could get back to it later...

I'm not interested in running a vm with VIDA/VICE if there's any alternative.

I'd really love to be able to reset the "service" light.
I am currently getting a code for an O2 sensor but can't tell which one.
I also have an issue with tracks/abs.

Does something like this exist, or am I being naive?

post up your codes on your OXS as they have completely different functions, and so only overlap on heater current faults.

AUTEL makes a good series of scanners and the one that will let you read codes and data runs about $150 on Amazon

I’ve used an iCarSoft one off Amazon and has worked well on my P1 and P2 Volvos.

My Autel resets the service light on the 96-98 cars. However, it is an 802 which is a higher end unit.

A laptop, a Vag-com cable and a free download of Vol-fcr will also do your checking, but is not really very portable.

I looked at the iCarsoft but it does not work on pre-00 cars that I recall.

For $6 or $9 dollars you can obtain the most common codes and reset them. I have not tried the $9 iOS & Android. The free Car Scanner software is easy to use and full featured.

So get a bit better OBD2 Bluetooth dongle? I bought the one that RobertDIY recommends, I think. It works pretty well for me.

It looks like OBDlink LX is ELM327 compatible, why not use that with the Android app?

I'd just look for a new/better BT reader and use the "850 OBD-II" app. It's pretty comprehensive.

I've had the same "cheapo" ELM-327 reader for several years, and it has worked for the OBD-II app, Carista, Torque, etc.

(I use the Carista app to get quick reads/resets, but the OBD-II give much more utility when I need it)
