repairing interior plastic

Post by enotslim »

Has anyone had success repairing damaged interior plastic trim from these vintage cars (usually cracking of aged material)? Plastic welding and if so what specific plastic material? Epoxy based methods (I guess it would need to somewhat flexible)? Taping combined with some sort of with reinforcement (like epoxy? Anything else. Lots of advertised methods but ... what actually works?

Specifically for 2004 XC70 but I expect the answer should be the same for most Volvos of this vintage.

Thanks.

These should probably work for most small repairs. I've used super glue and baking soda with success, similar to the last video.

Which piece of plastic specifically? I find it faster to just pick up a replacement at the auto wreckers. I've used JB Weld plastic repair in the past until a suitable replacement shows up at the junkyard.

If it happens to be the driver seat panel that surround the power seat switches those are available via FCPEuro and other sources and not tremendously expensive.

I’ve had success with JBWeld on the backside of plastics and some type of reinforcement. For high use area’s replacement is the best bet.

This would work for bumpers and larger plastics.
