Hi All,
So I am doing some maintenance to my 98 V70GLT and came across this connector, where the wires are broken off the plug. If you look straight down between the radiator fan shrowd and the engine, past the starter to the cross memeber below that...there is a connector coming from the left (passenger side) and to the right is the plug....with the wires missing. I cant figure out what this is. Any ideas? Thanks!
What is this?

If it is the knock sensor I would expect it to be throwing a code as it is on a loop with 3 other parts. I don't recognize the connector in that place, but then it is a 98 which is different to 99- I am more used to which have the ETM connector there.

Thanks guys! I will take a look at it in the morning. i did a quick read of the pelican parts article that you provided, Neil, and I see it references a naturally aspirated engine - this is a turbo - unless I misread it - I will read it again tonight anyways. But again, much appreciated you guys with this info.

Well as it turns out I cannot connect the wires as there isnt really any room to work. So, I see I can just buy the new knock sensor for it...that includes the plug but...that means taking off the intake - ugg. I think I will hold off on that since it has been broken for who knows how long? Should there be an associated code that should be showing up? Thx again!

Yes, you should have a CEL and a knock sensor code if it's the plug for them. I'll take a look at my 98 for any ideas as to what it might be.

He’s absolutely right - my 98 turbo has the same connector in the same place and it is for the knock sensors.
The strange thing is, damage to that wiring is usually the only way to throw a knock sensors code. The sensors themselves are simple microphones that almost never fail and the code/problem can be fixed by repairing the wiring. Here you have the connection completely severed and no code at all?? if that’s the case I probably wouldn’t be in a hurry to fix it, might wait for a pcv job when the manifold comes off anyway.
If you can find them at a junkyard that’s a great way to spend less on the knock sensors - used ones (intact with harness) will still last the life of the car.

The only way to really access that connector is to pull the fan unit out from the top of the car and give yourself more room to work, or when doing a PCV job as suggested.
I won't be able to check the wiring diagrams until later as they are in the garage. If no one else replies I will check it for you.
The wiring diagrams can be found on-line, we just cannot host them on MVS.
Neil.
