I changed the life-time fluid in the 8-speed transmission on the XC60 the other day. Pretty straightforward, drain/fill like in the youtube video by volvosweden.
Now I would think I should let the TCM know 'there's fresh fluid in there'. So, I am in Vehicle Comms/Diagnostics/TCM/Advanced and there is no Resetting the Fluid Counter (there is Reset Adaptations etc.)
(The functionality I am looking for is there for the 6-speed arrangement)
Am I trying to do something incorrect in VIDA or is it that the 8-speed transmission does not need that?
Any thoughts welcome, thanks in advance.
Eight-Speed Transmission Fluid Change Counter Reset Yes/No
I have done TCM Transmission Fluid Counter Reset on all my past Volvo's with Volvo Vida from a 01 XC70, 07 S60R, all the way up to a 2015 S80 with absolutely no problems at all. In Vida It is located in Transmission sub menu. BUT the 2017 & up you have to purchase the new 3day subscription directly from Volvo. That became a little bit more of a challenge & confusing for me. SO, with my 2017 Volvo S90 I brought it to Volvo to "Reset Transmission Fluid Counter", AND the Volvo Mechanic whom is on the younger side & extreemly Tech savvy said the 8 speed Volvo's 2017 & up do not have that specific function in their Dealer Software. He did the Transmission Adaptation & also updated to the latest software available. Now I do trust this Mechanic/Tech. He's always been straight with me & has always done Great work for me on my S90 & my Wife's XC60. No complaints at all. So I trust him. BUT I must say why would Volvo stop using that specific function on any of the Volvo's. Kind of odd to me but in all honestly that's what he told me was fact. Although I trust this specific Wrench/Tech's abilities & knowledge I personally am not totally convinced. I know that sounds contradictriy but it still remains quite odd for Volvo to cancel that specific function. More like not many or very few requests from customers, So basically I guess it easiest to say, No Trans Fluid Counter Reset Function for 8 spd trans. ??? I don't know but just like you I would honestly like to find out & do it the Fluid counter reset. I HAVE NO OTHER ANSWER & I TRIED TO GET AS FAR AS I COULD.
Please, If You find out anymore information please let me know as I will do it or have it done ASAP.
Regards

I could not get a convincing answer when I was having the wheel alignment checked at the stealership a few months ago. The guy I talked to said something like ‘you seem to worry way too much about it’ so I just decided to refrain from commenting on that.
I will try to find something from AISIN (there must be since they build these boxes for almost every other make) and will report back if successful
Thank you for responding.

Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.
