.
Add a fastener and grommet to raise and level the hood with the fender. Only one side needed the add height from the grommet.

Is there not any adjustment in the latch assemblies for the height?

Spent a few more fun packed hours sorting mainly bolts and clips. Could not ID locations, so bagged by dimensions. Naturally, then found a couple of trays wit recent bolts, all labelled with locations......................! :o

So tomorrow back to re-sorting and labelling many of the bags.

Again found so many bolts I am likely never to use. Around 140 of the T25 x 15mm bolts for the dashboard, 3 sets of main dashboard bolts, 4 steering wheel bolts and more. I think I also have about 20 of the small 8mm bolts for the center console cubby. Why???

Yes, the latch assembly can go both up and down but it is used to secure the latch/hood closed after you made the height adjustment of the hood to fender. Volvo does not have a threaded screw adjustable rubber stop. Once the square stop is flattened there will be a gap so the hood is floppy up and down on each end. If you adjust the hood latch to tightly close the hood it will be lower than the fender. You need to shim the square bumper stop.

This filling of the gap also allows the hood to be tightly closed which also helps the hood to release when you pull the lever. Mine was borderline and would not release on the driver's side from time to time. Now it opens every single time.

With most cars the radiator support is metal and thin so they can use an adjustable hood stop. Volvo  ?

Yeah, unfortunately the hood stoppers are a common issue on these. One of the first things I ran into when I first got into them… realized that opening the hood was a 2 man job lol. For a while I used a wooden wedge between the hood and headlight to apply pressure and release it.

The 98 S70 T5 owned in 2012 was definitely a two man job. Before adding the, I'll call it shim on the current 00 S70, I would have to pull the lever and very gently release while holding the lever till the very end before letting go. Majority of the time the hood doesn't re-latch itself close. Not an issues now as the grommet hardness is just enough to provide push back besides height to release every time.

Yep, I used to have to release it, go walk around and pull up, then back into the car to pull it again, then back to finally (hopefully) open the hood.

If you fold a piece of cardboard. In two and slip it in above the headlight, hoods will pop...
