LOL thats my problem with volvo seats. Wish I had extra cash to buy an i6 from a 90s 90 series and maybe a v8 from an xc90 too. Maybe a 2.3T for the cherry on top.

That is what it felt like yesterday! :D

I had only planned to check out the various fittings and fixtures to see where stuff went. That was mostly good except they 850 was junkyard just before I got there!

Normally they have metal flat topped barrows you can use, but as all I took with me was my small socket set (1/4" + 3/8" metric and SAE) which is reasonably heavy, and my tote carrier for tools which was fairly heavy with other tools, I didn't need a barrow.

Well that was until you get to the very back of the yard where Volvos always seem to get dumped, and see a good set of rear rotors. Text your buddy and he asks you to please bring them home. At this point I have run out of hands! With a gimpy shoulder this was going to be fun!

Fortunately, this is where the great spirit of other parts hunters comes in. An unfortunate young guy in for a small part happened to pass the end of the row, and was coerced into carrying the tool bag and I took the rotors and socket set! :D

Good news was I at least found locations for some of my long list of unidentified parts and fixings!

Finally got everything I needed to get the Silver Bullet back on the road after changing the MAF sensor along with rear brake rotors, calipers and pads and having the ETM repaired. A new H6 Interstate battery (why do they spec the smaller H5 with lower CCA and a higher price?), a Pierburg canister purge valve, plus OE thermostat, temperature sensor and coolant level sensor.

(Does anyone know offhand the diameter of the purge valve hoses?)

Started right up and hunted around for its proper idle speed for a bit before settling down. Now to bleed the brakes and get some fresh fuel!

You got me curious since the battery in my 850 is an H5 and the battery in my S70 is something that doesn't quite fit if I want to use the hold down. I haven't replaced it, since it was installed shortly before I purchased the car, and it still quite new.

Looking at Walmart's catalog, because that's where I buy all my batteries, I find that the H5 is listed for my 850, but the spec for my S70 is an H6 with the exception of their AGM offering. Prices seem to be the same for the two sizes, but they sure have gotten expensive. $160!!! My truck battery is $20 cheaper even though it's larger... group 78 (or 75).

When I bought the 850's battery, I wondered why the tray looked like it was designed for a larger battery. Next time, I'll get an H6.

It is an alternate size. For warmer climates the larger battery is not needed typically. For colder climates we need the larger battery to turn the car over when really cold! Volvo typically sells you the H5 for P80's.

On my '98 S70, I installed the original (Japanese market) Volvo electric folding mirrors. Obviously I had to change the opening angle (somewhat complicated) and add the electrical circuit (very easy). A very cool option in 1998!

I did the first oil change on Ingrid the 98' S70, and also replaced the badly cracked front brake hoses. While I had the car up, I tried to diagnose a rattle that's presumably coming from the front right. But I was unable to find it. All heat shields and plastic panels seem to be firmly attached. Oh well, another day maybe.
