What size of hard-drive do I need to run Vida 1014A?

Post by scot850 »

I'm thinking of upgrading my steam powered laptop on which I have Win 7 Pro and Vida 2014A. The laptop has a 500GB hard-drive but it seems to always be running almost full, so is that likely all Vida?

I also have an older version of Vida running on XP on the laptop.

What size of hard-drive should I go for to transfer is over onto a newer laptop.

I'd also like to ideally look at changing to running at least Win 10 to try to bring it into this decade at least!

Question is, would I be better to leave Win 7 running (it has no updates for security and getting security software is hard)??

I don't use it online other than our home hardwired network.

Thanks,

Neil.

Any size. What you're facing is just too much... stuff. Windows (and MacOS) take up enormous space, typically dwarfing any single application. If you have multiple Windows systems, that's going to account for the majority of the used space.

Typically you want to leave at least 10% free, and 20% is a more comfortable number.

Double your space for $60 https://amzn.to/3G7ip8z (if your laptop uses 2.5" SATA)

Just don't keep doubling the number of OS installs ;-)
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link

When I looked at replacing my old laptop a couple of years ago and again about a year ago, there were no used laptops around, and like used cars the prices were getting close to a new one. Now there seems to be loads of cheap used laptops for sale locally from good brands and with good specs and under $200 CDN. As it will be used in the garage, don't want anything expensive in case it gets dropped by accident.
