I will be installing struts for the 00 S70 soon and will check to see if the upper knuckle hole is oblong. That would be nice instead of the camber bolt which I've yet tried. Can you provide a link to your spring compressor? Since it's free from Advance and it's 5 minutes from me I don't foresee getting a set but I like to compare the construction of theirs with yours.

The helmet and goggle are a good precaution. I guess I haven't felt the need for it but I did purposely unload one once I can see where that would be very protective.

Here's the spring compressor, It's from Princess Auto here in Canada, made by Powerfist which is their house brand. It's very robust and unlikely to bend or break, I've used it on larger springs also. It has a 21mm bolt and locking pins and compact enough that you probably could get 3 maybe 4 on a spring if you're uneasy with the job.

I like the pins to contain the coils. When I was looking for this style years ago, there was nothing to be found like that.

My mechanic buddy bought a spring compressor off Amazon. It took a bit of fettling to assemble, but once done it worked well. I am still considering buying one at some point if I need to do any struts again, or just borrow his!

That does look beefier than other compressors. I've Bookmarked it and hope to remember to compare it with the rental. Thanks.

Gloating about this one again, apologies. I paid $200 for this Branick 7200, found it on Craigslist from a local body shop when they upgraded. Have done about six sets of struts so far, it’s a dream.

Originally I thought I’d use it and sell it but it’s a keeper for as long as I’m in the car repair trenches.

The front spring seat has deteriorated, so it is time to assess the scope of work.
Yes, compressor is the elephant...

You are down to $30+ per use, I think potato pie is in order to celebrate. That’s one hour of self-labour according to GAAP

However , my AI server was unable to process content with ‘gloat’ and ‘Iowa’ in the same content , much like ‘happy’ and ‘Albany’
