Muffler replacement options

That's really something. I bought two complete Starla exhaust systems from FCP before, and they shipped them right to my house. Granted, the last one was 3 years ago, so maybe they changed things. Perhaps shipping costs have gone up so much, and they are the ones paying for that.

I agree and also suspect the cost of mufflers damaged in shipping was too burdensome. Some reviews on their site said it arrived damaged but FCP made it right. I prefer to pick it up in CT, not wanting the extra cost, waste, and delays from damage. Far easier to drive a ways than to manufacture a new muffler because one got, justifiably, banged around in shipping.

This is such a timely thread for me, as Blue Steel has started to sound like a low-rider. (I tell the kids that's the sound of power and how we're able to "smoke" Porsches — though in actuality it's more about my understanding traffic patterns.)

The Silver Bullet's cracked tailpipe appears to have gone missing, causing some heat damage in the rear.

I love seeing those rusty mufflers on my car because it means new shiny FCP parts for free , very soon.

Looks like a piece of 2inch PCV will work, jammed into the rust and zip tied up.

Paint it to match of course, we aren’t savages.

I got a new Starla muffler from FCP and it looks great, just like the original. Can anyone recommend some anti-rust paint I could apply proactively before install to delay it rusting out? I would like to paint all welds, seams, and maybe bottom side of each pipe.

The more expensive question is how to prevent the OEM resonator inner mesh screen from rotting, letting fibers out the exhaust. I bought one from Volvo, so no FCP warranty, and it cost as much as the Starla exhaust.

Don't waste the time and money. Besides, any type of finish will generate some kind of fumes. It's under the Lifetime Warranty so allow normal wear and tear to runs it's course.

That will probably melt pretty quickly. Something short will do, like the one in the link below (random pick). Just add clamp and hanger.

I'd like the muffler to last to avoid the labor and other costs of replacement. Each muffler requires a repair flange to the cat and I must pay a muffler shop to weld it in. Then I have to drive from NH to CT and back to exchange old and new mufflers. I want to sell the car which would remove the warranty, so I'd like to leave the best quality part for the new owner.

I'd like to do anything I can do to delay the rust.
