Still unclear about a few points here, pictures are best for specific answers.850forum wrote: ↑01 Dec 2023, 16:40 Took it to the shop, where I have taken it since 1999, because I saw some oil dripping. They found:
1) the rear frame is pretty rotten & getting ready to fail, mostly on one side but both sides below par.
2) massive oil leak from the turbo.
3) gas smell & leak, suspect rodents chewed hoses on top of gas tank.
4) gas tank has corrosion & is ready to leak.
Does 'rear frame' mean bumper brackets ? Exhaust hangers ?
Turbo oil leak where, top ? Bottom ? Oil return line (a common issue, cheap but mildly unpleasant job ) ?
The top of the tank is easily accessed through the fuel pump inspection plate, unload all your stuff, follow Robert's lead:
The straps and stone guard rust under the tank, so does the collar from the filler neck. If you have a rusty gas tank, you may not actually own an 850.

The tank is plastic, but there is a metal piece beneath it which supports it.
Close to paying the $$$ for the shop time to drop the tank & see exactly where the gas leak is, and look at the condition of the sheet metal in the body.
Need to write up the recent major repairs to the engine (new valves etc) and see if anyone is interested in it for that. I understand any car gets $400 at auction from the scrap metal dealers.

The scrap deal is like fish at a restaurant, 'Market Price', and it rides the wave of buyers and end-use destination. Since this car is running and driving, if it needs a new home, some folks have luck on Facebook Marketplace. It could go on Craigslist as a 'project' or parts car without having to pay the fee.850forum wrote: ↑08 Jan 2024, 18:38 The tank is plastic, but there is a metal piece beneath it which supports it.
