I'm confused: for reading the ECC codes, do I use the blink code adapter suggested by Misha, or the Panlong?

And, if the Panlong will read my 96 Volvo 850 ECC (and presumably all other) codes, how does it specify my year, make and model?

The app reads the computer and already knows everything about the car when it initializes and you do a full scan of the car.

Use the blink codes for ECC, and 850 OBDII app for everything else.
1998 V70 AWD - Emerald Green/Tan - M56/Delta link swap, VAST tuned, lots of fun
1998 V70 NA - Nautic Blue/Charcoal - Factory M56/slicktop track car

1999 Saab 9-3 - daily

2004 XC70 - former workhorse, parted
2005 V50 T5 M66 FWD - former garage queen, sold
2002 S40 1.9T - former daily, rear ended

blinking on ecc is mostly due to dust near sensor near handle above front seats. look with light over there and you see little fan rotating. carefully remove dust.
